How many robocalls will you receive in 2020?
Do you feel you’ve been receiving more robocalls lately? You’re probably right. According to TechCrunch, the number of spam calls has grown by 18 % globally in 2019. And it’s even worse in United States. The volume of robocalls made in USA increased by 35 % in 2019. The FTC also received 5.7 million complaints about robocalls and live spam phone calls last year.
Stiffer fines for robocallers
Luckily, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. At least for Americans. Few days ago, president Donald Trump signed a bill that increases fines on criminal robocall violations and cracks down on companies making the calls, as part of a federal push against telephone scammers. The legislation imposes stiffer fines (of as much as $10,000 per call) on robocallers who knowingly flout the rules on calls. It also instructs the FCC to develop further regulations that could shield consumers from unwanted calls.
